In Colorado with your family or friends? Here's some ideas!

Wait! You mean there is more to do in Colorado than visit the Rocky Mountains? Your young family might get tired of you just gazing at the mountains from the hotel pool, so here is a smattering of fun things to do with your kids in Colorado to keep peace in the family. But we will mention some activities that can only be found in the mountains and not in the Midwest plains.

In the Front Range

We’re sure the kids would enjoy one trip to a fun park. You will find amusement rides, mini-golf courses, go-carts, arcade games, batting cages and even giant slides in Boulder, Fort Collins and Estes Park. You can all  experience old time farm life at a museum in Fort Collins were you can milk cows, wash clothes on a washboard and even work with a horse-drawn plow. There is a zoo right outside of Denver with exotic animals that always amazes the kids. You can have them design their own pottery in Boulder or Longmount. In Estes Park you can treat them to their first fishing experience at a stocked trout farm.

Denver or Lone Tree proper

If you are staying in the Denver area, or in the adjacent Lone Tree, you can find a water park, a children’s museum, an aquarium and yet another zoo. Let’s not forget that Denver is home to the Colorado Rockies baseball team, the Broncos football team and the Nuggets NBA basketball team. Depending on the season these might make memories for the family as well.

The Mountain region

There are some terrific things to do in the mountains. For example, there is the Cave of the Winds. What child doesn’t like caves? In the summer you can try out the tubing hill In Granby. One of only three in the country, you bounce down the hill, a long hill at that, on simulated snow, and then get a ride back up to the top to do it again. You can also find tube rides in the winter, on real snow, available at least three ski resorts. How about swimming in natural hot springs? All year round at that! There is an adventure park in Crested Butte that has a climbing wall and bungee trampolines. If I was a kid again I would love a ride on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. The highest train in the world it will take you up to over 14,000 feet. Imagine the views!

The Obvious

We would be remiss if we didn’t say something about skiing. With all of the fun things to do with your kids in Colorado, skiing is number one. Most resorts have ski schools so your youngsters can learn the sport. They also have rentals for all ages. Also, all Colorado resorts allow snowboarding as well. You won’t find that option in Utah. So let’s put those phones and video games away and enjoy some natural beauty in the magnificent state of Colorado!
