The one thing that jumps out about Englewood, Colorado, is the fact that water played a significant role in its history. It started with the discovery of gold in Little Dry Creek in 1858. In 1883 a horsecar path was created giving more access to both Englewood and Denver which finally led to incorporation in 1903. The second and huge water event came in 1948 when 2,500 acres was annexed for the development of the McLellan Reservoir. This project gave Englewood independence from the water rights owned by the city of Denver.
Two other major additions to this city now of 38,000 residents were the addition of Cinderella City in 1965. This mall when it opened three years later was at the time the largest shopping area west of the Mississippi River! Then in 2004 the city opened a multi-million dollar water park as keystone effort in the revamping of the entire parks system. The city has many, many amenities for the residents to enjoy in their own community from shopping, dining and enjoying the 300 days of sunshine outdoors.
What about Denver
Englewood is 15 to 20 minutes due south of Denver and 15 minutes from the Denver Tech Park. Englewood also had two stops on the light rail line system for easy access to both. Denver, a cosmopolitan city of close to 700,000 residents, can offer you absolutely anything your heart desires. From unique and boutique shopping to national retailers you can and will find everything. You can tease your palette at one of the over 3,000 different restaurants with truly global cuisine represented. There are four professional teams in the metro area; the Broncos in football, the Rockies in baseball, the Nuggets in basketball and the Avalanche in professional hockey. If you love sports you are busy year round!
Englewood sits on Interstate 25 so you can easily head south to Colorado Springs as well. Or drive into Denver and catch Interstate 70 to the west into the Rocky Mountains, continue up Interstate 25 to Boulder and Fort Collins, or Interstate 76 to get you to the Denver International Airport and northeast into the plains. Denver and the surrounding foothill communities are a travelers dream being the hub for so many various forms of transportation.
After you rode the light rail into Denver for an entertaining evening let’s talk about the cup of coffee on your patio the next morning. Can you ever grow old of gazing at the mountains? One of the many nice things about Englewood, Colorado is the view. To the east you have the plains and directly to your west are those majestic mountains. That peak you are staring at is the 14, 271 tall Mt. Evans which can be seen for over 100 miles in every direction. In Englewood you are only a 40 minute, scenic drive to that peak. Also close are the peaks of Longs Peak and Mount Bierstadt. Englewood is in the middle of it all, but yet still maintains its own identity and charm.
