History

In 1887 the original Park Hill development was platted on 32 acres owned by a gentleman named Baron Alois von Winckler. The very first home actually went up for sale in the year 1900. Unlike some of the neighborhoods in large cities out to the east, Park Hill saw settlers from England, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy and Afro-Americans. From the get go Park Hill was and is a very diverse community. Today over 27,000 residents call Park Hill home. In the 1950s a large commercial development was constructed on an old landfill. The Dahlia Square Shopping Center had a forty year run until if fell into disrepair. In the 1990s negotiations began and in 2005 it was demolished and has now been totally redeveloped.

The Greater Park Hill Community is a non-profit neighborhood organization formed in 1961 and working for ALL of Park Hill doing great things across the entire area. Yet Park Hill has three different neighborhoods within itself. There is Northeast Park Hill, North Park Hill and South Park Hill. A website this year called Niche has voted South Park Hill as the best Denver neighborhood and 28 th in the country. This is with neighborhoods in New York City, San Diego, Portland, Houston, Tampa, San Francisco and Dallas. Their criteria is based on the following; the main factors were Higher Education Rate, Cost of Living Grade, Housing Grade and Public Schools Grade, with many other factors like Diversity, Shortest Commute and Crime & Safety. South Park Hill received an A Grade in all of these factors!

Location

Park Hill is basically 15 minutes from downtown Denver, a cosmopolitan community that it is a part of. Denver proper has around 700,000 residents and an endless list of things to do.
