Teeth Whitening Options for A Sparkling Smile
Baer Dental - Where we treat people, not teeth.
Teeth Whitening in Aurora, CO
Dental whitening is one of the most popular procedures performed by cosmetic dentists. Numerous treatment approaches are available to perform this procedure. Dr. Chris Baer provides both at-home and in-office teeth whitening solutions in our Aurora office, depending on the patient’s needs.
Teeth whitening is probably one of the most widely recognized cosmetic dental procedures since it improves the look of your smile without other invasive procedures such as porcelain veneers.
Over time, your teeth will eventually start to appear yellower or discolored. This is caused by coffee, tea, tobacco products, or just from the normal aging process.
What is Teeth Whitening?
Tooth whitening or tooth bleaching is a cosmetic dental procedure designed to improve the shade of the teeth by reducing stains and discoloration. The color reflected by the tooth enamel can become pale, dark, stained, or discolored due to various factors. Tooth whitening is an external bleaching process to remove the surface impurities and bring out the natural, brighter shade of the teeth.
The treatment is not permanent, but the results of an in-office dental whitening treatment may last for several months to a year. The treatment may be repeated once a year, under the guidance and supervision of a dentist, to achieve long-term sustainable benefits.

In-office Dental Whitening
Dr. Baer is an experienced cosmetic dentist providing in-office dental whitening to patients. In-office whitening involves treatment of the outer surface of the affected teeth with a strong whitening solution containing hydrogen peroxide. The dentist will apply a substance on teeth to protect gums.
Thereafter, the whitening agent is applied on the teeth. A specialized light or laser will be focused on the targeted areas to allow the gel to get activated and the bleaching to be deeper and stronger. The in-office dental whitening procedure may involve a single or multiple appointments, depending on the patient’s condition of teeth and aesthetic goals.
This procedure begins with the dentist taking impressions of the lower and upper teeth in order to create custom-sized mouth trays to fit the teeth well. A close fit means that the bleaching agent will stay in place to work effectively on the teeth. Therefore, at-home whitening from a dentist is much more effective compared to over-the-counter whitening trays, which cannot provide custom trays or a strong solutions that a dentist can do.
At-home whitening is well-suited for patients who prefer to perform the treatment in the convenience of their home. The patient will fill each mouth tray with the bleaching gel provided by the dentist. The mouth tray can be worn at night or day for several hours at a stretch. The desired results may be achieved within two to four weeks in most cases. People with sensitive teeth, dental decay, or receding gums may not be ideal or text book candidates for at-home whitening or over the counter treatments.
