Pinhole Surgery

Gum disease—whether it is mild, moderate, or severe periodontitis—can cause massive issues to the gums; some of these issues cannot simply be resolved by removing the diseased tissue. One major component of gum disease is gum recession. Once gum recession hits a certain point of severity, it can cause major oral health issues, and it can be very difficult to repair. Luckily, there are different options for the repair of a patient’s gums once they have receded—one of which being the pinhole surgical technique.

Pinhole Surgical Technique

The pinhole surgical technique is a newer, less invasive option for the treatment of gum recession. The pinhole surgical technique involves a dentist creating a small hole for a special tool to be placed through to loosen and reshape the gums. This, in turn, encourages the gums to cover the exposed roots.

Pinhole Benefits

Many patients opt for the pinhole surgical technique when it is available because of the myriad benefits that the procedure has over other restorative procedures. Some of the benefits of the pinhole surgical technique include:

  • Longer lasting results.
  • No need for sutures.
  • No invasive tools or scalpels.
  • A less uncomfortable healing process.
  • Quicker recovery after the procedure.
  • Absolutely incredible results.

The fantastic results and minimal invasiveness of the procedure make the pinhole surgical technique an extremely popular alternative to gum grafting and other restorative measures.

Consultation

While the pinhole surgical technique is an excellent way to restore gums that have been affected by gum recession, not all dentists are qualified to perform this advanced technique. Because of this, you’ll want to speak with your dentist about whether or not they can perform the procedure and, if they cannot, whether or not they know any dentists in the area that can.

You also may want to consider searching online for a dentist that is able to utilize the pinhole surgical technique to repair your gum recession if your general dentist is unable to perform the procedure.

If you are concerned about the possibility of receding gum lines, set an appointment with your dentist for a consultation. If you have not visited your dentist in the last six months for an examination, now is a good time to do so. Your dentist will take a look at your gums and determine whether or not you have gum disease, as well as whether or not you are experiencing gum recession. They will then create a treatment plan and will go over your options for the repair of the recession of your gums (which may include utilizing the pinhole surgical technique). Don’t allow the recession to continue. The longer you wait for the treatment, the more difficult and costly the treatment will be.

With the pinhole surgical technique, dentists are able to restore the gum lines of their patients, and reverse the recession caused by gum disease.
