Treatment Options for Teeth Grinding
TMJ/TMD and bruxism are sneaky conditions, as they most often happen while you are asleep. Unless you live with a partner who can hear you grinding your teeth through the night, you may not even know you are suffering from this condition. With that said, you may be experiencing symptoms and not know what is causing them. If you find you wake up in the morning with jaw pain, headaches, and other forms of pain and discomfort, it may be time to schedule a visit to see if you are suffering from TMJ/TMD or bruxism.

Am I a Candidate?
In order to better understand if you need a night guard and if you are a candidate for one, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a dentist. They will then determine the source of your oral health issues. If they diagnose you with TMJ/TMD and/or bruxism, they will likely offer a night guard as a solution. From there, they will begin the process of creating a custom night guard for your particular teeth and jaw, as well as for your particular needs.
Caring for a Guard
Because your night guard will be in your mouth every night, it’s important to keep it clean for the sake of your oral health—otherwise, your gums may become diseased. It’s also good to take care of your night guard to ensure its longevity. Make sure to soak your night guard in a special solution and brush it regularly to keep it clean and to ensure your ongoing oral health.
